Mapfre Insurance named Sustainable Insurer of the Year

Mapfre Insurance has been named Sustainable Insurer of the Year by InsuranceERM in its 2026 Climate Risk & Sustainability Awards, recognizing the company’s continued efforts to integrate sustainability into its business strategy, operations and decision-making.

The recognition reflects years of collaboration across Mapfre to reduce environmental impact, improve operational efficiency and contribute to the company’s broader sustainability goals.

Measurable progress in the U.S.

Mapfre Insurance has made significant progress across several key areas of its sustainability strategy, including:

  • A 61% reduction in CO₂ emissions from its 2022 baseline, decreasing from 10,106 tCO₂e to 3,934 tCO₂e.
  • Carbon neutrality for 2025, with the company offsetting its remaining 3,934 tCO₂e of unavoidable emissions through an accredited carbon offset project.
  • A 10% reduction in electricity consumption from 2024 to 2025.
  • A 47.9% reduction in paper consumption from 2023 to 2024.
  • 42 ECO fleet vehicles added so far in 2026, building on the company’s continued transition toward a more sustainable fleet.

Throughout 2026, Mapfre Insurance has also participated in Demand Response, reducing building energy use during periods of high regional electricity demand. The company continues to advance Green Procurement, incorporating environmental considerations into purchases of higher-impact products and services.

These efforts in the U.S. are part of Mapfre’s broader global sustainability commitment. Across its operations, Mapfre has reduced the carbon footprint associated with energy consumption in its offices by 65% compared with 2022 and has installed more than 9,000 solar panels across eight countries.

The Sustainable Insurer of the Year recognition underscores Mapfre’s continued progress toward its environmental goals and the collective efforts of employees who are helping turn the company’s sustainability commitments into measurable action.
