Why choose condo insurance from Mapfre?

Mapfre’s Unit-Owners Policy, or HO-6, is a homeowners insurance policy specifically for condominium owners, designed with real life in mind to offer protection for your unit, personal belongings, and more. Our Unit-Owners Policy typically covers:

  • Fixtures, alterations, and additions you’ve made to your unit
  • Personal belongings in your condo
  • Additional living expenses if you can’t stay in your home after a covered loss
  • Loss of rent when the unexpected happens

What’s included with Mapfre condo insurance?

When you choose Mapfre, your policy comes with comprehensive, built-in benefits designed to give you peace of mind. Here’s an overview of what’s included:

Coverage A – Dwelling: Dwelling coverage, included in your homeowners insurance policy, protects the structure of your home against damage from events such as fire, wind, or hail.

Coverage C – Personal property: Personal property coverage helps protect your belongings, such as furniture, clothing, and electronics, if they are stolen or damaged by a covered event.

Coverage D: Loss of use: Loss of use coverage can help pay for additional living expenses, like hotel stays and meals, if you need to temporarily move out while your home is being repaired after a covered event.

Unit-Owners Coverage C Special Coverage: This coverage protects your belongings against specific risks listed in the policy. You may add extra coverage for more types of damage, subject to exclusions. This is only available if you live in the condo or co-op and do not rent it out.

Limited water back-up and sump pump discharge overflow coverage: This coverage protects you against direct physical loss to your property caused by water or water-borne materials that back up or overflow from sewers, drains, or sump pumps inside your home, a type of damage not covered by standard policies.

Credit card, forgery, and counterfeit money protection: You can add extra protection to your homeowners policy for losses from stolen credit cards, debit cards, forged checks, or counterfeit money. This optional coverage pays up to $500, but you can increase the limit to $10,000 if you want extra protection.

identity fraud

Identity fraud expense coverage: If your identity is stolen or used fraudulently, you may qualify for expense reimbursement of up to $15,000 under identity fraud expense coverage. You’ll also have access to CyberScout™ services, including credit monitoring, alerts, and expert guidance, to assist with recovery.

Mapfre Advantage Plus: MAPS homeowners policies can add the Mapfre Advantage Plus Endorsement for extra protection and valuable benefits. This endorsement raises limits on specific items, adds more coverage for trees, shrubs, and plants, covers fire department service charges, and includes new benefits, such as reward and lock replacement coverage.

Ordinance or law coverage: Ordinance or law coverage is an optional addition to property insurance that helps pay extra costs when repairing, rebuilding, or demolishing a damaged structure to meet current building codes. For older buildings, it covers expenses like mandatory upgrades to electrical lumbing, or structural systems that regular insurance may not cover. Without this coverage, property owners may be responsible for these costs after a covered loss.

identity fraud

Personal injury coverage: This coverage protects you from more than just physical damage. It also covers legal costs and damages if you are held responsible for personal injury, including situations like false arrest, wrongful eviction, libel, slander, or invasion of privacy.

Refrigerated property coverage: If your refrigerator or freezer fails due to a mechanical breakdown or power outage, refrigerated property coverage helps protect your perishable foods. If your food is spoiled because of a breakdown or outage, you can be reimbursed up to $500 after a $100 deductible.

Supplemental loss assessment coverage: Your policy automatically includes $1,000 in coverage for certain assessments related to your home (not including earthquake-related assessments). You can increase this coverage for an extra cost to cover one or more assessments from a single loss. This option is available for your main home and up to two additional locations.

With Mapfre, you get more than insurance. You get confidence, support, and flexibility to protect your home your way.

What’s not covered by condo insurance?

While your condo policy helps protect against many risks, the following are generally not covered:

  • Normal wear and tear
  • Damage from lack of maintenance
  • Damage caused by remodeling or renovations
  • Flood and earthquake damage, which typically require separate policies.

If you need extra coverage, you can ask about endorsements for high-value items or specialized protection for unique needs.

Your premium depends on your unit’s features, your personal property, and the coverage provided by your association’s master policy. Most policies are affordable and easy to customize.  Common questions about condo insurance

What does a condo insurance policy cover?

A condo insurance policy from Mapfre typically protects the interior of your unit, including walls, fixtures, cabinetry, and your personal belongings. It also covers you if someone has an accident or gets injured inside your home and may help pay for additional living expenses if a covered loss makes your unit uninhabitable.

Is condo insurance required by law?

The law doesn’t always require condo insurance, but most mortgage lenders and condo associations ask for proof of a policy to protect your investment. Even if no one requires it, coverage gives you peace of mind during unpredictable times.

Does my association’s master policy cover my personal property?

No. Your condo association’s master policy generally only covers the building’s exterior and common areas; it does not cover the interior of your unit or your personal belongings. That’s why you need a condo insurance policy.

How much condo insurance do I need?

The value of your belongings, any upgrades you’ve made, and what your association’s master policy includes all determine the right amount of coverage. Your independent agent can help you customize your policy for the protection you need.
