In 2025, Mapfre USA reduced its carbon footprint by 6,172 tCO₂e compared to the 2022 baseline. This remarkable 61% decrease exceeds our internal target of 45%. This achievement highlights significant progress in implementing the measures and strategies outlined in our Environmental Footprint Plan 2021 to 2030, which directs our efforts to minimize environmental impacts across our operations.
This 6,172 tCO₂e reduction is also the largest emissions decrease among all Mapfre Group companies in 2025. As a result, Mapfre USA is the leading national contributor to Mapfre’s global emissions reduction goals for the year.
This milestone demonstrates our deep commitment to sustainability and the effectiveness of our decarbonization initiatives, including operational efficiencies, improved energy management, and responsible resource use. It underscores Mapfre USA’s leadership in driving meaningful climate action and advancing the Group’s long-term environmental objectives.
2025 Carbon Offset Projects
Following a 61% reduction from our 2022 baseline and a 15% reduction from 2024, Mapfre USA recorded 3,933.94 tCO₂e of unavoidable emissions in 2025. To address these remaining emissions responsibly, we invested in accredited carbon offset projects, prioritizing nature‑based solutions in the United States, particularly within the New England region, where many of our customers and employees live and work.
Our first selected project is the MA Tri-City Forestry Project, located in our home state of Massachusetts. This initiative is a regional collaboration among the towns of Holyoke, West Springfield, and Westfield, which together have protected 13,536 acres of forestland. Supported by the American Carbon Registry, the Forest Stewardship Council, and state water authorities, the project safeguards vital watershed areas and strengthens long-term ecological resilience. These protected forests are projected to sequester approximately 122,000 metric tons of CO₂e each year. The participating municipalities have pledged to significantly increase carbon storage in their forestlands over the next 40 years.
Our second project, the Loon Echo and Mahoosuc Land Trusts Forest Carbon Project, is situated about two hours north of our Webster offices and spans parts of New Hampshire and Maine. This initiative is expected to generate over 700,000 metric tons of CO₂e reductions during its 20-year crediting period. Strategic forest management, such as extended harvest rotations, selective thinning, and enhanced conservation practices, preserves existing carbon stores while expanding the forests’ long-term sequestration capacity. The project also supports biodiversity, improves water and air quality, protects soil health, prevents erosion, and maintains public access to natural areas for recreation and well-being.
As an international company, Mapfre also values supporting high-impact projects beyond our immediate region. To offset our remaining unavoidable emissions, we invested in the Concosta REDD+ Project in Colombia’s Chocó region, which is one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems. Led by the Concosta Community Council and Fondo Acción, the project combats deforestation and forest degradation across 134,977 acres through better governance, active community engagement, and sustainable economic development. Over 30 years, it is expected to generate more than 8 million verified carbon units while empowering local and Indigenous communities with training, capacity-building, and long-term livelihood support.
Through these three projects, Mapfre USA fully neutralized its unavoidable emissions for 2025. Our investments reflect commitment to local communities by protecting the natural landscapes of New England, while also advancing sustainable development abroad. As a global organization, we remain dedicated to fostering resilient communities, protecting natural resources, and supporting climate solutions that benefit people and the planet for generations to come.
