A: Personal property, including jewelry, is covered anywhere in the world including inside your home BUT it is important to note that standard Homeowners policies often will NOT cover jewelry or watches that are simply lost or misplaced because “mysterious disappearance” is usually excluded. However, jewelry and watches are generally limited to between $1,000 and $5,000 aggregate by most homeowner policies. If you own jewelry in excess of those limits, you can purchase a rider within your policy to have the limits increased to meet your needs. And, don’t worry, you can purchase coverage for mysterious disappearance by adding an endorsement to your policy. Ask your agent for details.
